CEELI Institute, a Czech non-governmental non-profit organization, invites legal practitioners, seeking in-depth knowledge and wishing to develop professional skills in how to use EU law to protect human rights in Europe, to apply for a course on EU law and Human Rights.
The participants will learn:
-The connection between the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and national legal human rights protection.
-The procedures under Article 7 the Treaty of the European Union (TEU), and how to trigger them.
-Reforms of national judicial systems and the safeguards of independence of the judiciary under the EU law.
-The admissibility of claims before the EU Courts.
-EU case-law on “balanced” restrictions of fundamental rights
-Practical tips on how to access the relevant EU documents.
The course will be held in English. The Faculty will include prominent law professors, practitioners at the European Union Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights, and representatives of the European Institutions. The program is highly interactive and includes moot courts, case-studies and work in groups, along with traditional lectures.
The course will consist of three sessions, each a separate three-day component (total of nine class days), which will take place on April 4-6, and in September 5-7 and December 2019 (dates TBD). For applicants accepted into this program, the CEELI Institute will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, insurance and other expenses related to their stay in Prague during training sessions.
Applicants must be citizens or legal residents of the following countries: Albania, Armenia, BiH, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia.
